Nintendo DS – TV

dstv.jpg Japan Has Something We Dont!

Thats right! The DS-TV is an antenna that attaches onto your DS and allows for reception of television signals. The main screen becomes the viewing area and the touchscreen below handles changing channels and other features.

The DS-TV costs $62.70 US and is compatible with the current DS and DS lite. A Nintendo spokesperson told GameSpot that it currently had no plans to bring DS TV to other regions

Mixx.com Site Review

mixx.jpg
Im usually not ready to get excited about a new web 2.0 startup social bookmarking site but Mixx has a little something for me. The similarities to
Digg and Technorati are there without a doubt, The listings are organizevotes.JPGd in the same horizontal way with the vote on the left side but heres where Mixx shows us its first nice feature. The ability to vote down a story! Unlike Digg and Technorati you can vote against a story and the count goes down accordingly. As opposed to Digg where all you can do is bury the story which really doesn’t do much.
Simmilar to Digg, when you create a Mixx account you select your top interests and they will now show up on your homepage nicely organized for you, While this isnt anything special its still a nice feature brought over from the other social bookmarking sites.

Another new feature Mixx is using is tags! I know some people hate tags but I think they are very useful, Tags allow you to further separate the pre-defined categories into smaller more “niche” listings.

Finally.. Mixx is very friendly to the eyes, its a fresh and clean looking and with a few more unmentioned features such as local news and the Mixx Kitchen it might stand a chance in the fight with Digg and Technorati but Mixx still being in open beta, we will hope for some more features before it attempts to tackle the big dogs.

Samsung’s Flash Memory Laptop

Solid State Memory Laptop

At the Cebit technology fair in Germany, Samsung unvieled plans for a laptop using solid state flash memory and eliminating a hard drive. The laptop has 32GB of flash memory. The newer memory chips are smaller in size and occupy the same space as traditional 1.8″ disk-drives.

Whats The Advantage?

  1. Speed! – The new chips allow data to be reached much faster, the prototype laptop that Samsung showed off was able to boot in 18 seconds versus 31 seconds for the laptop with a regular hard disk drive. This is a great stride in speed almost 50% as fast as traditional hard disks.
  2. Reliability & Portability – Solid state memory can handle a beating, This is the same technology used in MP3 players that allows you to smack them around without skipping. This makes your data safer. Solid state memory is also much lighter than hard disks. This will open up all sorts of opportunity’s for new super light portable laptops.

The Real Problem Here?

Although there are many advantages to this new technology the only major downside is the cost. One of these 32GB chips cost’s almost 900$ making it hard to have a large amount of storage space in any medium. But technology prices are always falling so in a few years this technology will start popping up on a lap near you.
